Repose Funeral HomeHarrow GreenFamily-owned since 1961

We'll help you take the next step.
Then the one after that.

Burial, cremation and memorial services from a family that has answered the phone at every hour since 1961. Plain prices, no packages, and a garden to sit in.

The garden, from the side door. Open to any family in our care.

If you need us now

If someone has died, you don't have to know what to do next.

Call us. Whatever the hour, a person from this house answers, not a service. We'll ask a few questions, tell you exactly what happens next, and come to you.

Call, any hour.

Day or night, every day of the year. One of us picks up, usually Margaret or Daniel. There is nothing you need to have ready, and no question is too small.

(555) 555-0118

We come to you.

Within about an hour, anywhere in the county. We bring the person who has died into our care gently, from a home, a hospital or a hospice, and we handle everything that has to happen at the door.

We handle the paperwork.

The death certificate, the permits, the notices to the pension office and the bank, the obituary if you'd like one. You will sign a few things. We do the rest, and we tell you when it's done.

If they died at home under hospice care, call the hospice nurse first, then us. If it was unexpected, call emergency services first; we take over once the doctor has signed. If you're not sure, call us anyway and we'll tell you.

Our services

What we do, and what it costs.

Every family gets the same care and the same straight answers. Nothing here is a package you have to buy whole. You choose only what you want, and we'll show you the total before you decide.

BurialWith a service, or without

A funeral service here, at a place of worship, or at the graveside, followed by burial in the cemetery you choose. We coordinate with the cemetery, the clergy or celebrant, and the newspaper so you don't have to.

Most families spend between $6,800 and $11,500, including the casket. The cemetery's own fees are separate, and we'll tell you what they are before anything is decided.

CremationDirect, or with a gathering

Direct cremation with no service, or cremation with a viewing or memorial before or after. The ashes come back to you within a week, in a simple container or an urn you choose.

Direct cremation is $2,150, all in. With a service, most families spend between $3,400 and $6,200.

Memorial and celebration-of-life servicesHere, at home, or somewhere they loved

A gathering without the body present, whenever the family is ready, sometimes months later. Music, photographs, an open microphone, a long table of food: whatever fits the person, and nothing that doesn't.

From $1,900 for a service in our reception room, including staff, setup and the garden for the afternoon. Elsewhere, we'll quote it plainly once we've seen the place.

Pricing, plainly

Our general price list, on the wall and on the website.

Most funeral homes will hand you a price list if you ask. We'd rather you didn't have to ask. What follows is the list we work from, and it is the same for everyone who walks in.

You may choose only the items you want. You never have to buy a package, and nothing is added without your say-so.

The full itemized list is yours before you commit to anything: in person, over the phone, or by email. We do not add a charge you have not seen in writing.Effective 1 January 2026

Planning ahead

For those who would rather decide now, calmly.

About a third of the families we serve have already met us. Pre-planning is a conversation, usually an hour, sometimes with a cup of tea, about what you want and what you don't. We write it down, keep a copy, give you a copy, and it's done.

  • What it involvesAn hour with Margaret or Daniel, here or at your kitchen table. Burial or cremation, the kind of service you'd want, who should be called, anything you'd like remembered. You leave with a written record.
  • What it costsThe conversation is free, and a plan on file costs nothing. If you choose to pay ahead, the money is held in a state-regulated trust in your name at today's prices, and it's refundable if you move or change your mind.
  • Why families do itBecause it takes the guessing away. The people who love you won't have to wonder what you wanted, or disagree about it, or decide at three in the morning. Most people describe it as a kindness to whoever is left to decide.
The family

Three generations, one house on Linden Road.

Walter and June Ashby opened Repose in 1961 in the craftsman house at 41 Linden Road, and lived upstairs for the first eleven years. Their daughter Margaret came home to run it in 1994. Her son Daniel joined in 2015, after nine years as a hospice nurse.

We're small on purpose. There are four of us, two directors and two people you'll meet at the door, and everyone who works here has sat with a family. We are not part of a group, and we don't plan to be.

Grief support

The second Tuesday of every month, the reading room is yours.

A grief group led by Ruth Ellery, a licensed counselor who has run it since 2017. Half past six until eight in the evening. There's no sign-up and no fee, and you don't have to have used us. Come once, or come for a year. Some people just sit.

Most months are open to anyone. A few are set aside for a particular kind of loss, and those are marked.

If you'd like to talk to someone between meetings, write to support@repose.example and Ruth will call you within a day. We also keep a short list of counselors and books we trust; ask any of us for it.

The home

A house with a wide porch, and a garden that asks nothing of you.

We've been on Linden Road since 1961. The house is the one with the porch and the copper beech. Come in at the front, or by the side door if you'd rather not use the steps.
